Smooth line visualization goes back to "straight" when adding to a Dashboard

I created a line graph visualization and under Metrics & Axes > Metric, set the Line Mode to "smooth".

A smooth line curve is created and saved.
But when I add this visualization to a dashboard, it's added as a Straight line.

When I try to edit the visualization again, I can see that it's smooth, but in the dashboard, it stays as straight.

This is on Kibana 5.4.2

This was a known issue, https://github.com/elastic/kibana/issues/11651.

It got fixed with https://github.com/elastic/kibana/pull/11958, but only backported to the last maintained minor, which was 5.5.

You would need to upgrade Kibana to see the fix.
