I have searched in the forum but could not find the relevant discussion.
If a document contains a field which is a list of values (e.g. ['p', 'q', 'r']), then this field cannot be chosen as a term for visualization?

No because it is not a term, it is an array.
I'm not sure if this can be graphed.
