ElasticSearch upgrade 7.17.23 -> 8.15.0 (Upgrade Assistant)

Hi! I recently managed to get a 3-node ES cluster updated from 7.17.23 to 8.15.0

However, there are some search, transient errors after the upgrade. I followed all the upgrade guide, and checked for deprecations but there were none. It seems it's related to a particular index.

Now I noticed that in the Kibana docs, there is a section about Upgrade
Assistant. I never heard of it and perhaps would have been a life saver here.

My question now is the following: Can I run now the Upgrade Assistant, even though I'm at 8.15.0? Should I downgrade first? There's little documentation about that, so I'd highly appreciate your guide here.

No, the upgrade assistant is used on a previsou version, like 7.17.X to see if you can safely upgrade to version 8.X without any issue, once in 8.X you will have an upgrade assistant when version 9.X is launched.

No, this is not possible, you cannot downgrade Elasticsearch.

If you are having issues after the upgrade you will need to troubleshoot this issue to try to solve it.

I'd recommend that you open a topic with the error/issue you are having and share your configuration and logs.
