Format field as url

Hi Elastic folks, I already know how to format a string field that in fact is an url as link, to be "clicable" on the discover and it works, ok. But my trouble just now is to set the format when I put my template on Elasticsearch. I were trying without success changing the template and the mapping ... it's possible to set the format of a field through the Elasticsearch API?
