Is "Search applications" end-of-life? I can see it's in Beta in the documentation - I see this in the "Search -> Search applications" page

"Maintenance Mode Notice

Search Applications is in maintenance mode and will only receive security updates and bug fixes in future releases."

I want to evaluate Elastic as an alternative to Algolia and Typesense

I wanted to call Elasticsearch using pre-built search widgets - is that possible? This seems to be the only link for building search UIs and it's deprecated: Search UI with App Search | Search UI

Also, I want to use Behavior Analytics - I have a cloud trial but can't find that anywhere

Have you checked out Search UI? There are pre built widgets and there is a tutorial for use with Elasticsearch.

Behavioral Analytics are not included in 9.x and only in 8.x.
