I am interested in the Kibana maps feature and have a few clarifications to seek.

  1. What is the difference between Kibana maps and the Elastic map service?

  2. Does X-pack or an elastic license need to be installed for the maps feature to be available?

  3. Is an internet connection required to use the maps feature or Elastic map service?

  1. The Elastic Maps Service provides the maps in Kibana
  2. No. You do get more with a free Basic license though. See https://www.elastic.co/subscription
