Currently I am setting up a app search for a small project with the elastic enterprise search free version, I am wondering if I also can enable the https in the opensource version?

There is no open source App Search available. So in that regards, you cannot enable anything.
Sorry, may be I talking about the wrong version, I mean using the free version
