I have a control that selects "job name". I'd prefer for the dashboard to "wait" until the user has selected a value from that control. Is that possible in Kibana?

Fair enough. I've developed dashboards on a few platforms, including Elastic and Splunk. In Splunk, controls set variables; visualizations rely on searches, which might refer to those variables; visualizations don't display data until the required variables are set.
