Watcher- cannot update mail settings

can you please assist with the following error?
I'm trying to configure smtp in order to use watcher

Currently the only way you can use watcher email in ESS is by using our built-in SMTP proxy (for spam prevention, sadly)

so I don't need to define mail settings in the deployment's User Settings at all?

I mean: will that work just as is? (after verifying the email address of course)
