I've installed Elasticsearch 6.6.1. While I did not explicitly choose to install X-Pack plugin during the install it turned out we wanted it. Further, it appears that X-pack is installed by default in 6.6.1. And I've verified this when I attempted to install X-pack via .\elasticsearch-plugin install x-pack and received ERROR: contains X-Pack by default. However, when I attempted to modify the user elastic's password using .\elasticsearch-setup-passwords interactive I receive "It doesn't look like the X-Pack security feature is available on this Elasticity node.". I then updated the elasticsearch.yml file entry xpack.license.self_generated.type: basic' to
You need to activate a trial or get a gold/platinum license to use security features.
You can do that easily with Kibana.
